Who Are We?

The Chicago Police Marine Corps League (CPMCL) is Marine Corps League Detachment 553. We are a 501(c)(3) veterans organization comprised of Marines and FMF Corpsmen. All donations to this organization are tax deductible.

The CPMCL believes in veterans helping veterans.  All CPMCL board members are Marine (and FMF Corpsmen) veterans who are also active or retired members of the Chicago Police Department, the Chicago Fire Department, and Cook County Sheriff’s Office.  Why is this important?  Zero dollars donated to this organization will be wasted.  Your donation will NOT be paying the salary of, nor buying printer toner for a work-from-home consultant.

Our belief is that there are three levels to veteran and first responder support today.  Large scale or “MEF level” organizations like the Gary Sinise Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, the Navy Seal Foundation, and the Lone Survivor Foundation are great partners on the nationwide level.  Small scale or “platoon level” support for a veteran or first responder comes from the core group that they deployed or served with in the military or currently work with in a first responder capacity.  While these groups provide a wealth of resources in enabling veteran crisis derailment (up to and including preventing suicide).  Sometimes the larger entities are not wired into the local community and the platoon level are unaware of how to access appropriate resources in a timely manner.

We are the missing middle or “battalion level” in the realm of veteran and first responder organizations in the Midwest and in particular the Chicagoland region.  With our contacts and financial support of Bravehearts Therapeutic Riding, Road Home Program, Brotherhood For the Fallen, V.E.T. Service Dogs NFP, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, and StellaCenter we have been able to properly route at risk veterans and first responders to the correct level of care or assistance.

In addition, we provide support to local Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts.  We are a source of local intelligence for nearby Marine Corps Reserve Units and recruiters.  Our dedication to the next generation of public servants is evident in our support of Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) detachments and the Young Marines.  We enable higher education by supporting the Corporal Connor Lowry and Lance Corporal Nick Daniels Scholarships honoring local Marines lost in combat operations as we support the continuing mission of their families.  We have long been supporters of the Chicago Police Chaplains Ministry and the great work they do.  We also assist other local veteran organizations like the Chicago Marines Foundation.  We will never forget the sacrifice of those who came before as we contribute and make visits to the Manteno Veterans Home.  Lastly, we prepare care packages for local troops when they are called upon to deploy.

The CPMCL has donated over $83,600 in FY2022 and $76,000 in FY2021.
